More than 6,400 Year 11 and 12 students across Tasmania have begun their end-of-year exams, with the two-week written assessment period getting underway today.

Students sat their geography and mathematics methods foundation papers this morning, marking the start of a busy fortnight that runs until November 20.

Education Minister Jo Palmer said the exams were an important milestone for senior secondary students.

“Exams are an opportunity for students to showcase the knowledge and skills they’ve worked hard to develop,” Palmer said.

The external exams form part of continuous assessment for Level 3 and 4 courses and help measure student achievement across the state.

Students who complete at least four Level 3 and 4 courses over Years 11 and 12 will receive a tertiary entrance score, which determines their Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).

Oral, practical, performance and project assessments have already been under way throughout Term 4.

“Education is the most powerful driver of economic and social success,” Palmer said.

The exam period will conclude on November 20 with modern history and accounting assessments.

Students will receive their 2025 course results on December 17 by email and post.
