Motorists are being urged to slow down and watch out for wildlife after three dead platypuses were found on a busy road in Tasmania’s north.
Two of the animals were discovered in recent days and another on Tuesday morning at the same spot on Sheffield Road at the Glencoe Farm corner.
“There are no wildlife signs to indicate platypus crossing,” one motorist said, prompting pleas for the community to slow down and watch for wildlife.
The Wild Island Rescue and Rehabilitation service collected the dead animals from the side of the road.
“We will be sharing some data with relevant stakeholders to get something done,” they wrote online.
“This is the third one and the same location in two weeks.”
“Please slow down on our roads, drive to the conditions, and please keep an eye out for our precious wildlife.”
“If you see injured or orphaned wildlife, call 0447 264 625 any time of the day or night.”
