Three iconic Hobart bakery stores have closed down today after they were placed into voluntary liquidation.

Although exact numbers are yet to be confirmed, it is understood that the liquidation is likely to impact roughly 70 to 80 casual and permanent employees.

The company has said it will be collaborating closely with the liquidator to ensure that all stakeholders, including employees and suppliers, are informed and supported during this challenging time.

The news of the liquidation has taken many by surprise, especially those who relied on the bakeries for their daily bread and other baked goodies.

Many fans have expressed their disappointment at the closures online, with one calling the Kingston bakery “the best.”

“No more Cheesy mite scrolls or cheese and chive scones…”, she said, another adding that they were the only place that made low fodmap bread.

“So glad I bought a loaf today then if they are now closed.”

Other Bakers Delight stores across Hobart and Tasmania are not thought to have been affected by the closures.

Further updates are expected in the coming days as the liquidation process gets underway.

The company has said they are aiming to reopen the businesses as soon as possible.

A notice on the ASIC website shows the franchisee Make Dough Enterprises Pty Ltd is “in Liquidation.”

“Notice is given that at a general meeting of the members of the Company held on 22 February 2023, it was resolved that the Company be wound up and that Philip Newman be appointed liquidator(s).”
