Thunderstorms are forecast across much of Tasmania today, with the west, Midlands and south in line for hot and wet weather.
The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting a partly cloudy day with a medium chance of showers in Hobart, most likely in the morning.
There is also a chance of a thunderstorm, with temperatures expected to reach 32 degrees in the capital.
Other areas of the state will be even warmer, with Richmond and Ouse tipped to hit 33 degrees.
The hot weather has prompted the Tasmania Fire Service to issue a total fire ban for southern Tasmania.
Acting Southern Regional Chief Scott Vinen said high fire danger ratings will be in force during the ban, which runs for 24 hours.
“This means that from 2am Monday morning, no fires will be permitted in the open, including incinerators, burn-offs, campfires, fire pots and wood-fuelled barbecues,” he said.
“These measures are designed to protect our communities and keep people safe and we appreciate everyone’s understanding and cooperation.”
He said anyone that has lit a campfire in recent days should make sure it’s fully extinguished.
“If you’re away from home camping or enjoying the long weekend, make sure to check the warnings for the specific area that you’re in and make a plan for how to stay safe in the event of a bushfire,” Vinen said.
“Anyone who sees a fire in the open over the coming days is urged to report promptly to Triple Zero (000).”
