A couple on Tasmania’s north-west coast got a venomous surprise last night when they found a tiger snake slithering among their clothes.

The four-foot reptile was discovered tangled around clothes hangers at a home in Nook, south of Devonport, on Sunday evening.

Snake catcher Damien Hingston from North West Snake Catchers was called to the property to remove the unwelcome visitor.

“This is not what you want to find hanging from your clothes hanger on a Sunday night,” a post on the snake catchers page read.

“Just a reminder to try and keep your doors closed during summer if you can.”

“Open doors can bring in unwanted guests, especially with our days progressively warming and birds still nesting under eaves, which is definitely an attractant for a snake.”

The snake was identified as a tiger snake, a species known to be highly venomous.

The Department of Natural Resources and Environment website notes tiger snakes are legally protected and generally do not stay in the same place for more than 15 days.
