A driver has been caught towing a trailer overloaded by 600 kilograms during a traffic blitz on Hobart’s Brooker Highway on Wednesday.
Police and State Growth transport inspectors conducted the operation outside MyStateBank Arena, targeting vehicle compliance and road safety.
Officers detected 15 vehicle defects during the operation.
The most serious involved a standard 6×4 box trailer carrying a small excavator that was 600 kilograms over its legal weight limit.
Transport officers defected the trailer and required the driver to arrange alternative transport for the excavator.

In a separate detection, police intercepted a drink-driver travelling at more than twice the legal alcohol limit.
The same motorist was caught driving at 80km/h in a 40km/h zone.
Inspector Jason Klug said there was no tolerance for dangerous behaviour on the roads.
“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility,” he said. “These checks are part of ongoing efforts to reduce serious crashes and keep Tasmanian roads safe.”
