A bushfire that is “expected to be difficult to control” has ignited in Launceston’s north-west.
People near Grenadier Court in Trevallyn are being told to ‘Monitor Conditions’ as the blaze burns on a hill in the area.
The Tasmania Fire Service say the fire is expected to impact Grenadier Court and the nearby area in the next hour.
“Embers, smoke, and ash may fall on Grenadier Court Trevallyn and surrounding areas,” the TFS said.
“Conditions are expected to be changeable.”
A smoke alert has also issued for surrounding areas.
“Seven brigades and three aircraft are on the scene and members of the public who do not live in the immediate area of Grenadier Court are urged to stay away,” the TFS said.
A witness told Pulse the fire was burning just metres from homes and communications infrastructure.
