Two 17-year-old P-platers have been caught drink-driving during a road safety operation in Launceston’s CBD.
Tasmania Police carried out 202 random breath tests between Thursday and Saturday night, working alongside the Department of State Growth’s Transport Safety and Investigation Unit.
One of the teenagers allegedly recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.121 – well above the zero limit for provisional licence holders and more than double the 0.05 limit for fully licensed drivers.
He received an immediate 12-month licence disqualification and multiple traffic charges and has been bailed to appear in court.
The second P-plater was pulled over in the CBD and allegedly returned a reading of 0.063.

Police also conducted 30 drug tests, with seven drivers returning positive results.
Officers issued 30 vehicle defect notices.
Four cars were deemed so unsafe their registration was suspended on the spot, with each driver fined $820.
“Road safety is the responsibility of every road user and that includes drivers and car owners maintaining their vehicle to a certain standard, so it can be driven safely and performs reliably under all conditions,” police said.
