Four arrested after firearm discharged in Old Beach altercation

Updated – 4:50pm: Four people have been arrested following a firearms incident at Old Beach this morning where a shotgun was allegedly discharged during a dispute over a car.

Police say the gun was fired once at about 7:35am after an altercation between two parties who knew each other.

No one was wounded and there were no serious injuries reported.

Two men allegedly stole a car from the Old Beach property after the incident and drove to Bridgewater.

A 27-year-old man and 26-year-old woman were arrested a short time later when police found them in the stolen car.

Police attended another Bridgewater property about 11:15am where an 18-year-old woman allegedly tried to flee in a car.

She crashed on Gunn Street but was uninjured and arrested at the scene.

A 27-year-old man believed to be involved in the morning firearms incident was then found in bushland in Gagebrook and taken into custody at 1.35pm.

Police conducted traffic operations and targeted searches across Old Beach, Bridgewater and Gagebrook throughout the day.

No charges have been laid yet and investigations are continuing.

Police are asking anyone with information, dashcam or CCTV footage to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Initial reports indicate the firearm was fired during a dispute between two parties who knew each other.

The arrests occurred in the Bridgewater area, with members of the public likely to notice an increased police presence in Old Beach and Bridgewater as investigations continue.

As a precautionary measure, the Jordan River Learning Federation Middle and Senior campus at Bridgewater was temporarily closed earlier this morning while police conducted searches near the school.

No serious injuries are reported with police investigations continuing.
