Two children charged over deliberately lit $75,000 Kingston Coles fire

Two young people have been charged over a deliberately lit fire inside a Kingston Coles supermarket last night.

Police allege the pair, aged 12 and 15, set fire to vegetation on John Street around 6pm on Wednesday.

They then started a fire within a stocking trolley inside the Coles store, causing smoke damage estimated at between $25,000 and $75,000.

The store had to be evacuated and closed as a result of the blaze.

Kingston Police located the youths nearby and arrested them.

The pair were interviewed by Hobart CIB detectives and charged with several offences, including unlawfully setting fire to property and unlawfully setting fire to vegetation.

They were granted conditional bail and will appear in the Hobart Youth Justice Court at a later date.
