Two young inmates who escaped from the Ashley Youth Detention Centre tonight, sparking a large-scale police search in the Deloraine area, have been returned to the facility.
The pair, both aged 17, “left the premises” at around 6pm on Thursday, 15 minutes after police were called to the complex following reports of a “disturbance”.
Police say the two males returned around 8pm, with negotiations “underway to resolve the incident”.
A spokesperson told Pulse the way in which the teenagers were able to leave the facility is “yet to be determined”.
“No one has been injured and there is no risk to the public,” they said.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was earlier called in to assist with the search, along with multiple police units.
