Two people have been plucked from their vehicle after it became submerged on a flooded causeway on the east coast during a period of torrential rain.
St Helens Marine Rescue members were called to the Binalong Bay Road incident just before 5:30am on Sunday.
The white Mitsubishi Outlander became submerged after attempting to cross the causeway, which police earlier said was covered in one metre of water.
A swift water rescue operation was launched, with a Landcruiser being backed into the floodwaters to tow the stranded vehicle to higher ground.
One rescuer entered the water to extract the pair inside from the driver side window and into the waiting Landcruiser.
Just after 11am on Sunday, St Helens Marine Rescue said the car remained on the causeway.
“Please, never driver through flood water and obey all road closure signs,” police said.
