As anticipation continues to build ahead of the state double-header between Tasmania and Queensland at North Hobart Oval this Saturday, two young guns are gearing up to get the show on the road.
The AFLW umpiring panel has a new addition with Hobart teenager Emily Best, who has been promoted for the upcoming season after a strong season in the TSL.
The 18-year-old boundary umpire says she’s excited for her future prospects and hopes to officiate a game for Tasmania’s women’s team when it enters the AFLW in about five years.
Best will prepare for her AFLW aspirations by umpiring the women’s state representative game between Tasmania and Queensland on Sunday, with the goal of eventually running the lines for Tasmania’s own AFLW team in the big league.
Nathan Geason, the men’s field umpire who will officiate the state game with Best, said the umpiring teams this weekend would be just as nervous as the players.
