An upgrade to Brighton’s sewage infrastructure has been completed, allowing for new residential and commercial development in the growing municipality.
The $10.1 million project was funded by the Australian Government and delivered by TasWater in partnership with Brighton Council.
The expanded system will service 73 hectares of land, providing essential infrastructure for future growth.
Brighton Council is also carrying out additional work in the area, upgrading 2,040 metres of Brighton Road, Dylan Street and William Street.
The works include new footpaths, kerb, guttering and landscaping.

A 1,090-metre separated shared path is being built to connect to the existing network at the Brighton Industrial Hub, with completion expected in early 2026.
TasWater General Manager of Project Delivery Tony Willmott said the infrastructure will provide essential services for the new Brighton High School and up to 600 new homes.
“We have delivered a future-proofed water and sewerage network that will support the region’s development for years to come,” he said.
The works included a new sewage pumping station, a gravity sewer main and a rising sewer main.
Brighton Council Mayor Leigh Gray said the completion of the project will enable hundreds of families to move in in the coming years.

“It will facilitate a range of residential and commercial developments for our rapidly growing community and create the outcomes we had always envisaged for this precinct,” he said.
“Council has been extremely pleased to partner with TasWater to deliver these positive outcomes, with considerable interest from developers to add more housing lots.”
