Violent late-night taxi driver brawl erupts in Hobart CBD

Police are looking into reports of an alleged violent altercation between multiple taxi drivers in Hobart’s city centre over the weekend.

The incident, which took place on Liverpool Street outside several popular venues including Hanging Garden and Poobah, allegedly escalated from a roadside dispute into a physical confrontation around 3am.

Witnesses reported seeing several taxi cabs stopping in the middle of the road before drivers exited their vehicles and allegedly began fighting with each other.

The altercation, involving punching and slapping, spilled into the Aussie Mart convenience store, where one driver was pressed against a glass window before being pushed outside.

Tasmania Police confirmed they are looking into the matter but said no formal complaint has been lodged.

“Police are aware of the alleged matter and are making enquiries,” a police spokesperson told Pulse in a statement.

“At this stage no formal report has been received.”

Authorities are now seeking additional information from members of the public who may have witnessed the incident.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Hobart Police on 131 444,” the police spokesperson said.
