Visitors planning a trip to Cradle Mountain’s Dove Lake in the next few weeks will need to account for a short walk to get into the park.

Maintenance work on the Pencil Pine Creek bridge, which starts on October 14, will mean visitors will need to hike for 20 minutes as part of their shuttle bus journey.

The bridge will be closed for the duration of the works, which are expected to be finished by October 18, weather permitting.

“Buses will operate on both sides of the bridge closure area,” a spokesperson said.

“After travelling on the first shuttle bus from the Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre, visitors will need to disembark, complete the Enchanted Walk to reach the connecting shuttle bus on the other side of the bridge for the trip to Dove Lake.”

The bridge will be open for a short time each day for authorised vehicles, including emergency service vehicles and park shuttle buses at 9:45am, 11:45am, 1:45pm and 3:45pm.

“In the event of an emergency, we will work with Parks and Wildlife to make sure emergency vehicles have safe access in and out of the national park,” the spokesperson said.
