Volunteers from across Tasmania have come together to pack 80 care kits for women recently diagnosed with gynaecological cancers.

Held in Hobart, the SHE Gynaecological Cancer Group’s latest event marks a new milestone, with plans to deliver kits to the north of the state for the first time.

“The initiative has rallied supporters from the SHE community, many of whom responded to a volunteer callout on Facebook,” said SHE Chair Scott Harris.

He said the turnout highlights “the strong grassroots support for women facing a gynaecological cancer diagnosis”.

Each care pack includes comfort items and a SHE journal

Each care pack contains comfort items including skincare products, tea, oral care items, hand sanitiser, candles, heat packs, specialist clothing and a SHE journal.

A new addition in this year’s packs is the teal face cloth, created through a collaboration with local Hobart store Lily & Dot, which called on crocheters and knitters to contribute handmade items.

Nearly 300 cloths were donated from across Australia

“The response was overwhelming,” Harris said.

“We’ve received nearly 300 cloths donated from across Australia, a powerful show of nationwide solidarity for Tasmanian women with gynaecological cancers.”

So far, the initiative has delivered more than 100 care packs to hospitals and cancer centres around Tasmania.

With this new batch of 80, the group is aiming to reach even more women in northern Tasmania.
