Walker rescued after injury strands him on remote Port Davey track

A hiker has been successfully airlifted to safety after becoming stranded with a leg injury on Tasmania’s remote Port Davey track.

The walker, who set out for a day hike at 9am on Friday, failed to return by his expected arrival time, triggering a search and rescue operation.

Police were notified about the missing hiker around 6pm on Friday, prompting them to deploy search and rescue personnel and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter to the area.

The search operation located the man, who had suffered a leg injury that prevented him from completing the walk and returning as scheduled.

Tasmania Police confirmed the injured walker was airlifted to Hobart following his rescue and is expected to make a full recovery.
