Police have arrested seven people, including a woman allegedly armed with a knife and teenagers accused of stealing, in an overnight blitz targeting Wellington Court and the Hobart CBD.

Inspector John Toohey said the operation, executed by the Taskforce Saturate and Dog Handler Unit with support from Hobart City Council’s CCTV network, also found several others in the city on Thursday night in possession of controlled drugs.

As a result, two summonses were issued, two individuals were referred to the drug diversion process and two will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act, Toohey said.

Other offences identified included breaching a police family violence order, unlawful possession of property, possessing a dangerous article in a public place, breaching bail, possessing a controlled drug or plant and possessing items used to administer a controlled drug.

“As police, we’re focused on keeping people safe and operations like this help us do that,” he said.

“Collaborative operations like this help make sure Hobart stays a place where everyone can have a good time, safely and responsibly.”

Acting Hobart Lord Mayor Dr Zelinda Sherlock said the work by police was important in promoting community safety, particularly in areas previously affected by crime and anti-social behaviour.

“Our priority is to create a secure and supportive atmosphere in Wellington Court and surrounds, where businesses can thrive and employees and visitors feel safe,” she said.
