Northern Tasmanian commuters are no closer to knowing when a promised park and ride facility at Legana will be built, more than two years after the state government first committed to the project.
Transport Minister Kerry Vincent told parliament last Thursday he could not provide a timeline for the Legana site but said the project had not been “shelved”.
“It is still part of the budget process that we’re working through,” he said.
He committed to checking with the department and reporting back “at an appropriate time”.
The park and ride was one of three facilities promised for northern Tasmania during the 2024 election campaign as part of a $32 million transport package that also included a Launceston bus interchange.
Locations at Prospect and Mowbray were announced in May 2025, but Legana was notably absent from that update.
No site, budget or delivery date has been made public for the West Tamar facility.
Labor MP Jess Greene, who raised the issue during question time, said the government had failed to deliver on its commitment.
“The government promised a Legana Park and Ride site. But two years later we are still waiting for details,” she said.
“It sounds like this is another promise broken now the votes have been counted.”
