Nearly 70 polling locations across Tasmania have fired up their barbecues today, offering the iconic ‘democracy sausage’ for voters heading to the ballot box.
The federal election tradition has taken hold at primary schools, community centres and halls throughout the island as Tasmanians cast their votes.
From Devonport to Hobart, volunteer-run barbecues are serving up the classic snack to hungry voters, with all proceeds typically supporting local community organisations.
The sausage sizzles are operating at a diverse range of locations including Richmond Primary School, Turners Beach Hall and the Scamander Sports Complex.

Primary schools make up the majority of locations embracing the tasty tradition, with more than 40 school grounds hosting barbecues alongside their voting booths.
In Hobart, voters can grab a democracy sausage at numerous locations including South Hobart Primary School, Goulburn Street Primary School in West Hobart and Princes Street Primary School in Sandy Bay.

Northern Tasmanians aren’t missing out either, with sizzles at Riverside High School, Perth Community Centre and George Town Memorial Hall among others.
The north-west coast is also well-served, with barbecues at Hellyer College in Shorewell Park, Ulverstone Secondary College and Wynyard Railway Institute Hall.
King Island voters can enjoy the tradition at Currie Town Hall, while community halls in smaller locations like Mountain River, Sandfly and Sulphur Creek are also participating.
Over 21 Tasmanian polling places are also hosting cake stalls, along with the traditional democracy sausage.
