The Launceston City Council is offering free parking in over 700 spaces across three of its multi-storey car parks in the lead-up to Christmas.
The four-day initiative will start this Saturday and Sunday and continue next weekend in the Elizabeth Street and Paterson Street East and West car parks.
Mayor Matthew Garwood expects the offer will result in the three carparks filling up quickly.
“That means if you’re eager to nab a free spot, it will be important to get in early,” he said.
“It may only save people a couple of bucks, but that can be all the difference at this time of year.”

Garwood hopes the offer will lure more people into businesses across the CBD.
“We know there have been some difficult economic conditions across the country over the past year or so,” he said.
“And this initiative is designed to be a small assistance to Launceston residents who are getting their Christmas shopping wrapped up.”
The free parking will only be available in the three designated multi-storey car parks and not in on-street metered spaces.
