Damaging winds of up to 100km/h are set to lash Tasmania tonight, with the Bureau of Meteorology issuing a severe weather warning for several regions across the state.
The Central Plateau will bear the brunt first, with north-westerly winds averaging 60 to 70km/h and gusts hitting around 100km/h from Thursday evening.
The wild conditions will then roll into elevated and coastal parts of the south and south-west by early Friday morning.
The north-east and east coast won’t miss out either, with damaging gusts possible over higher ground from Friday morning before spreading to lower areas by midday.

Swansea, Bicheno and Lake St Clair are among the locations in the firing line, along with Fingal, Strathgordon and Tarraleah.
The Bureau says a strong north-westerly airstream, ahead of an approaching cold front, is driving the severe weather.
Winds are forecast to swing westerly and ease through Friday afternoon as the front moves across the state.
