Outgoing WIN News journalist & editor Alex Johnston will join the Jacqui Lambie Network as a senior political advisor next month.

Johnston will begin the new role on July 15, leaving his position as News Director, a role he has held since 2019.

He previously worked as a senior media advisor for state Labor while in opposition between 2014 and 2018, and had a brief stint at the Museum of New and Old Art as their Media Coordinator between 2018 and 2019.

His recruitment comes after the Jacqui Lambie Network advertised for staffers last month following the departure of its entire parliamentary staff on the eve of the return to parliament.

Pulse understands the advisors resigned due to disagreements with the three new parliament members over recruitment decisions as well as policy and organizational reasons.

On Friday, Johnston shared to Twitter that he would “no longer have any editorial influence over the political coverage” on WIN News, in light of his incoming role.

“I’ll be here for another few weeks but [Sophie Kuryl] and [Imogen Elliot] will take care of all things political,” he said.

“I can’t express how much I’ll miss working with this beautiful team and I’ll soak up every day I’ve got left in the newsroom.”
