Woman dies after car crashes into Morty’s Food Court in Launceston

A woman has died after being struck by a car that crashed into a Launceston food court yesterday afternoon.

The white vehicle slammed through the front of Morty’s Food Court just before 12:30pm on Wednesday, mounting the kerb and colliding with the building.

The 67-year-old woman was rushed to hospital in a critical condition but died overnight.

The driver, a 65-year-old man from Lilydale, sustained minor injuries in the incident and is assisting police with their inquiries.

Police said investigations into the cause of the crash were continuing.

“A report will be prepared for the coroner,” a police spokesperson said.

Authorities have appealed for witnesses to come forward as they piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information should contact police on 131 444 and quote OR789383,” the spokesperson said.
