Young Tasmanian woman facing charges over fatal crash that killed three-year-old boy

A young woman is facing serious charges over a fatal crash in Tasmania’s north that claimed the life of a young boy.

The 25-year-old George Town woman was driving on Bridport Road on March 22 when she left the road.

Two young children were rushed to hospital where one of the children, the three-year-old boy, passed away a short time later.

Her four-year-old daughter suffered minor injuries.

The woman is scheduled to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court on November 18 on multiple charges.

Police say they include causing death by negligent driving, negligent driving and driving while under the influence of a prescribed illicit drug.

She is also charged with permitting a passenger over six months but under four years to be unrestrained and permitting a passenger aged over four years but under seven years to be unrestrained.

Charges for driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle without a licence and minor drug offences have also been laid against the woman.
