A Tasmanian woman has had a birthday to forget after her car burst into flames in a crowded supermarket carpark.
Authorities attended the scene at Prospect IGA in Launceston on Tuesday afternoon where the engine compartment of the white sedan was engulfed in flames.

Firefighters, who were just across the road at the time the fire broke out, praised staff and community members for keeping the woman safe and preventing the fire from spreading.
The white sedan was completely destroyed by the engine fire, with onlookers describing the fire as ‘quite intense.’
‘[It] went off with a bang … Something must have exploded under the bonnet,’ IGA owner David Baxter told 7 Tasmania.
