Two north-west drivers have been caught drunk behind the wheel at more than four times the legal alcohol limit overnight, including one woman who had a child in the car.
The 35-year-old local Wynyard woman was pulled over on Saunders Street around 4:45pm on Wednesday.
She failed a roadside breath test with a reading of 0.201 and later blew 0.219, more than four times the legal limit of 0.05.
Inspector Adrian Shadbolt said the woman was driving with a child in the back seat at the time.
The woman has been disqualified from driving for 24 months and charged with driving a motor vehicle while exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit and failing to comply with conditions of a driver’s licence.
Later that evening, a 36-year-old man from Western Australia was stopped on nearby Oldina Road.
He too failed a roadside breath test that read 0.180 and later blew 0.173, more than three times the legal alcohol limit.
Inspector Shadbolt said driving while under the influence of alcohol puts both the individual and other road users at risk.
“We will continue to proactively patrol our roads to ensure everyone is doing the right thing,” he said.
“Road safety is a community responsibility.”
The man was charged with driving a motor vehicle while exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit, driving whilst his driver’s licence was suspended, abuse police and threaten police.
He was disqualified from driving for 12 months.
