A young man will be off the road for the next year after allegedly leading police through Hobart’s eastern suburbs while almost four times over the legal blood alcohol limit.
The 23-year-old was arrested on Monday night after reports of hooning in Howrah.
Officers said they were called around 8:45pm, eventually intercepting the car on Ninabah Street.
The man allegedly took off on foot but was caught and arrested shortly afterwards.
He then is alleged to have recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.199.
The man is now facing a string of charges, including evading police in aggravated circumstances, driving with a suspended licence, using an unregistered vehicle, driving without insurance and drink-driving.
His car has been clamped for six months and he has been slapped with a 12-month driving ban.
Police said the case shows their zero-tolerance approach to hooning, especially when combined with other serious offences.
“Police continue to target hooning drivers and warn offenders that when you are caught, you will be separated from your car for a significant period of time,” a spokesperson warned.
