A young man has been charged with several offences following an incident in Queenstown overnight.

Police witnessed a blue Ford Falcon they say was being driven recklessly in the Queenstown township, with the driver attempting to evade officers as they tried to pull him over.

The 21-year-old driver made it 50 kilometres out of the area before he was stopped and arrested near Donaghys Hill, halfway to Derwent Bridge.

Acting Sergeant Brad Coulson said the young man was charged with hooning and offences against police.

The driver was later arrested near Donaghy’s Hill

“This sort of driving behaviour is reckless and it puts innocent people at risk,” Coulson said.

“Police are committed to keeping our roads as safe as possible and hoons should be warned that this type of behaviour can lead to loss of licence, vehicle confiscation and significant fines.”

His vehicle has been seized by police and an application will be made to have it permanently confiscated.

“Police would like to thank the Queenstown community for its assistance in providing information that lead to the apprehension of the man,” Coulson said.
