A young learner driver has been caught more than three times over the legal alcohol limit while driving solo in the state’s north-west.
The 20-year-old Ulverstone man was stopped by police in Wynyard on Saturday morning and found to have a breath analysis reading of 0.172.
According to Tasmania Police, the man was an unaccompanied learner driver at the time of the incident.
He was arrested and bailed to appear in court at a later date, with his vehicle impounded and driving privileges suspended for 12 months.
“Drink driving and speeding are two of the fatal five factors contributing to our road toll and places drivers, passengers and all other road users at risk of serious injury due to the increased likelihood of causing a crash,” police said.
