A man has died after falling from a height while bushwalking at Federation Peak in Tasmania’s Southwest National Park.
Police say the man, believed to be in his 30s from Victoria, fell around 11am on Monday.
His two fellow bushwalkers raised the alarm and search and rescue teams were dispatched to the remote area late yesterday afternoon.
The Westpac Police Rescue Helicopter and ground crews resumed the search this morning and located the man’s body around 9am.
He his body was retrieved by the helicopter, while the two other walkers were also airlifted out of the park.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
“Our thoughts are with the man’s family and loved ones at this difficult time,” police said.
It is the third bushwalking-related death in Tasmania since Christmas Day.
On Christmas Eve, two men in their twenties were rescued after being disorientated and separated from their equipment at Federation Peak.
In July, the body of a New Zealand bushwalker was recovered after he also fell from a height near Federation Peak.
