A two-vehicle collision in Launceston’s east has claimed the life of a 27-year-old woman and left a male passenger seriously injured.
The crash occurred around 5.20pm on Thursday at Johnston Road in St Leonards, when a Mazda sedan collided with a Subaru wagon.
Emergency services rushed to the scene where they performed CPR on the female driver of the Mazda, but she tragically died at the scene.
A 32-year-old male passenger from the same vehicle sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to the Royal Hobart Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.
The female driver of the Subaru wagon escaped without physical injury.

Police sealed off Johnston Road to allow crash investigators to examine the scene thoroughly.
“Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and loved ones at this difficult time,” a police spokesperson said.
Authorities are now calling for public assistance as they prepare a report for the Coroner.
