Updated – Tuesday, 8:30pm: Police say the youth has been charged with possessing a dangerous article, common assault and destroying property.
Earlier: A youth has been taken into custody after reports of a person allegedly threatening another person with a machete at Kingston Beach in southern Tasmania.
Police rushed to Kingston Beach at around 4:30pm following reports of threatening behaviour from a group of five youths.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing a member of the group allegedly threatening a person with a machete, prompting urgent calls to authorities.
When officers arrived at the beach, they conducted searches of the youths involved in the incident.

A Tasmania Police spokesperson said one youth was found “in possession of a knife” and subsequently taken into custody.
The remaining four youths were ejected from Kingston Beach following the police intervention.

“The matter remains under investigation,” the spokesperson told Pulse.
