Launceston Airport has recorded its busiest year on record, with over 1.3 million passengers passing through the terminal.
Last month alone, the airport saw over 126,000 travellers arrive and depart, making it the busiest February in history and surpassing the previous 2019 record by 8%.
Airport CEO Shane O’Hare has attributed the success to increased flights into Launceston, including non-stop routes from Adelaide, Perth and the Gold Coast.
“We see the winery businesses between South Australia and the north of Tasmania booming because of the South Australian links there with non-stop flights,” he said.
“So it’s great for the economy and it creates jobs.”
In December, the airport unveiled $14 million in upgrades to the check-in hall and security screening point as future passenger figures are forecast to hit 2.5 million each year by 2040.
