Hobart Airport is in the middle of its busiest time of the year, with approximately 175,000 passengers expected over the next two weeks.

Today, Christmas Eve, is expected to be the busiest day of the holiday season, with around 11,000 travellers passing through the airport.

Hundreds of flights from across Australia with airlines Qantas, Virgin, Jetstar and Rex will land in the state this Christmas, as well as several Air New Zealand international flights from Auckland.

Extra staff and volunteers have been called in to help manage the rush, as well as entertainment including a DJ and a Christmas tree costume character.

Airport bosses earlier this month said their goal these holidays was to make the travel experience as stress-free and seamless as possible for passengers.

“There will be probably some delays getting through security screening, we make no apology for that,” Airport Chief Operating Officer Matt Cocker said.

“We want to do the best that we possibly can and get the best safety outcome for everyone.”

Normal transportation options, including the Sky Bus, taxis and Ubers, will be available during the busy holiday period.

In the north, Launceston Airport is also expecting an influx of people, around 6,000 per day, jetting off both to and from the state.
