Burglars have reportedly stolen over $130,000 worth of cigarettes from businesses across greater Hobart in recent months, with police now working to track the bandits down.

The Criminal Investigation Branch say several businesses have fallen victim to burglaries they believe are “linked to the same group of individuals”.

So far, each incident has occurred overnight while the businesses are closed.

“Between October 2023 and February 2024, six business burglaries occurred in Lauderdale, Howrah, Lindisfarne and Sorell where cigarettes were specifically targeted, police say.

“Police wish to hear from anyone with any information, particularly relating to anyone with large quantities of cigarettes or who are offering them for sale.”

Information can be shared with the Bellerive CIB at 131 444 or anonymously through Crimestoppers.

In October, thieves swiped around $50,000 in cigarettes from a Bellerive service station, a Lauderdale bottle shop and a Lindisfarne supermarket.
