Your local bus stop could soon be upgraded to an all-access, all-weather shelter under a new initiative to modernise bus stops across the state.
138 bus stops make up the first round of funding under the All Access All Weather Bus Stop Upgrade grants program.
Up to $10 million to be be provided to councils to incorporate wind, rain and sun protection to bus stops at priority locations, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Michael Ferguson said.
“With almost 3,500 bus stops around Tasmania, mainly located on local roads, it’s a big job and one we’re working closely with councils to deliver,” he said.

The first to receive funding are the City of Launceston, West Tamar and Northern Midlands councils.
The upgraded bus stops will comply with the Disability Discrimination Act, making them more accessible to people with disabilities and families using prams.
The State Government expects to open applications for round two by the end of July 2023 and all round one projects will be completed by January 2024.
