Police in Northern Tasmania are launching a new crackdown on crime in popular shopping districts.
This high-visibility operation, which aims to increase visibility and deter criminal activity, is focused on cracking down on a wide range of offenses, including drug offenses, shoplifting, possession of dangerous articles, and anti-social behaviour.
Just one week into the operation, authorities have already charged 19 individuals with 61 offences.

Local business owners have also reported a noticeable uptick in shoplifting in recent times, and they are hopeful that the increased police presence in areas such as Mowbray, Prospect, Kings Meadows, and other shopping centres will help to deter criminal activity and ensure that shoppers feel safe and secure.
Acting Inspector Northern District Phil Norton has reassured shoppers that the police force is committed to maintaining a high level of visibility in these areas in the future.
