An earthquake in Longley around 13km north-east of Huonville has been felt by dozens of people overnight.

The 2.3 magnitude quake struck at 10:07pm at a depth of 7km.

Residents across southern Tasmania reported feeling the brief tremor, prompting many to share their experiences on social media.

“We [felt it] in Kettering. Agree it was a loud rumble,” one resident wrote.

Another added: “We heard a huge rumble about 10pm last night. Sounded like thunder but clear sky’s so probably related.”

There have been no reports of injuries or property damage from the earthquake.
