$20k damage: Deliberately-lit fire engulfs log pile at Burnie’s old pulp mill

A fire that engulfed a log pile in Burnie overnight has been deemed deliberately-lit.

The blaze at the old pulp mill on Massey-Green Drive erupted shortly after 9 pm on Sunday and consumed ‘a significant quantity’ of logs.

Eyewitnesses say the fire was ‘going pretty badly’ when crews from Burnie, Somerset, Penguin and Stowport/Natone arrived.

Police say fire investigators found that the fire was deliberate and caused an estimated $20,000 damage.
