A brand-new $3 million sound and light show is set to illuminate the Devonport foreshore by the end of June.

The project is the final stage of the Devonport City Council’s urban renewal Living City Project.

The installation of equipment is well underway at the new Waterfront Park (Roundhouse Park) Precinct, with Mandylights collaborating with local Tasmanian contractors to bring the project to life.

Approximately 200 lights and speakers plus 18 LED screens will create the unique audio & visual show each every evening.

Council say they hope the show will encourage visitors to spend more time in the city, and plans are underway for a major winter festival to mark its launch.

“The Devonport Sound & Light Show will create an immersive visual and sculptural performance that exalts the beauty of our alpine region, farmland, the city of Devonport and the importance of the Mersey and Don Rivers as they flow into Bass Strait,” a Council spokesperson said.

The project was originally scheduled for completion in December 2023.

The Federal Government chipped in $1.5 million for the project, while the State Government provided $750,000. The Devonport City Council covered the remaining $750,000.
