One of the world’s most renowned fly fishing destinations has been put up for sale for just the second time in over 50 years, with the price tag expected to exceed $30 million.
Spanning over 2,000 hectares in Tasmania’s Central Highlands, the London Lakes estate boasts three lakes – Lake Big Jim, Lake Samuel and Lake Benjamin.
It also includes a substantial lodge and farmhouse accommodation.
The property was transformed into a private fly fishery in the 1970s by Jason and Barbara Garrett and has since gained a reputation as one of the best in the world.
In 2003, a group of families from Sydney purchased the estate and have since made several changes, including extending the highland stream that connects the two largest lakes and introducing a restocking program with wild trout.
The fishery features a unique mix of brown, rainbow and tiger trout and is known for its challenging fishing experiences.
Knight Frank agent Jason Oster said the sale represents a “once in a generation opportunity” to acquire an iconic estate.
“A coveted fly fishing destination, London Lakes has been host to fly fishing championships at both the national and international level and is known the world over for its challenging fishery and fish of exceptional condition,” he said.
“This protected pocket of Tasmania offers the seclusion and security of one of the world’s most pristine and remote natural environments.”
Elders agent Sam Woolcock, who is also representing the property, said there has been strong interest from both local, interstate and overseas buyers.
“We have also noticed an increase in enquiries from buyers seeking cooler and less volatile climates,” he said.
