Police are investigating after a 30-year-old hedge in New Town was set alight in the early hours of the morning, with the owner saying video of the person responsible has been handed to officers.
Emergency services were called to reports of a hedge on fire on New Town Road at around 3am on October 18. The fire was put out but half of the hedge along the front of the property was destroyed.
In a social media post, the hedge’s owner said they had “some video of the perpetrator and it has been provided to the police”.
“I would welcome any further information anyone can provide,” the owner said.

The post said the family had been “blown away by the number of people also devastated by this wanton act” and that the kind words had been welcome.
“It wasn’t just a hedge,” they said.

Dozens of people responded to the post, many expressing sympathy.
One said it was “saddened to see this senseless destruction in our beautiful neighbourhood”.
The local postie said “it broke my heart when I saw it”.
Another local said “I was sad to see that. I too have a much loved large hedge. I hope it’s not a trend.”
