Well-known Tasmanian cycling photographer, Marcus Enno, who is better known as Beardy McBeard, has been left with serious injuries after he was hit by a car while riding his bike near Hobart on Saturday.

Enno was riding with a friend on New Norfolk’s Burnett St when his bike collided with a turning utility vehicle shortly before 10am.

He was rushed to the Royal’s emergency department, where he underwent surgery on his right arm and hand – both of which were broken.

The surgery involved installing two metal plates to stabilise the limb, with a second survey still to be undertaken on his leg.

Close to $40,000 has been raised for Enno in just two days, with hundreds chipping in to support his surgery, rehab, mental health support and lifestyle change costs.

Enno, who has captured some of the world’s highest-profile cycling races such as the Tour de France and Giro d’Italia, as well as numerous gravel and road mass participation rides across Australia, is a well-known icon of Australian cycling.

He has previously beaten cancer and made it to the top of the photography profession, but now faces one of his “toughest challenges” as he recovers from his injuries and works hard to get back to doing what he loves.
