Police say most establishments and staff were found to be in compliance, except for 5 security guards who didn’t have the “correct identification”.

Inspector John Toohey said the force joined Compliance at Consumer, Building and Occupational Services (CBOS) to take an “educational approach”, chatting with owners and staff to “remind them about what security agents should be doing”.

“As police, we’re focused on keeping people safe and operations like this help us do that,” Toohey said.

CBOS Director of Compliance Dave Tilley said operations like this help make sure Hobart stays a place “where everyone can have a good time, safely and responsibly”.

“The legislation is in place for everyone’s safety, and operations like this provide an opportunity to make sure everyone understands and follows the rules, which is particularly important at such a busy time of year for licensed premises”.

Last month, six Hobart waterfront pubs were slapped with infringement notices in another crackdown.
