Home Base is preparing to host its first Community Christmas Lunch under its new name, after rebranding from Colony 47.
The charity will fill In The Hanging Garden in Hobart on December 25, offering a festive meal, companionship, and holiday cheer to Tasmanians in southern areas facing hardship.
Home Base CEO Dianne Underwood said they want to create a special experience for every guest, with a “lavish” Christmas lunch costing about $20 per person.
“Our goal this year is to raise $5,000 to meet the growing demand,” she said.
“The lunch has brought people together for over 40 years and last year catered to over 500 guests, reflecting the increasing pressures of the cost-of-living crisis.”
“We’re thrilled to host the event at In The Hanging Garden again this year and, with Flint Kitchen’s support, we hope to make Christmas magical for those in need.”
Scott Heffernan from Flint Kitchen said they are working hard to keep pace with the increasing number of attendees.
“The event is growing exponentially year on year and we’re upscaling and growing with it,” he said.
“We have had great success working with businesses in Tasmania to provide a wonderful home cooked meal with the freshest and best produce around.”
Underwood encouraged people to visit the Home Base website to support the cause and help make the event possible.
“It takes a village of people to put this on each year, and we’re so thankful to everyone who contributes to the event,” she said.
