$540,000 in scholarships are currently on offer for nursing and allied health professionals interested in pursuing a Certificate in Palliative Care or a Specialist Certificate in Palliative Care.
The State Government has joined forces with Flinders University to offer the free study scholarships to support 450 health and support workers aspiring to gain expertise in palliative care.
Each scholarship will fully cover the $1,320 Certificate and $3,720 Specialist Certificate in Palliative Care tuition costs, both available online through the university.
Minister for Health Guy Barnett said the certificate course is designed for those who occasionally engage with people with palliative care needs, while the specialist certificate is for those who frequently engage with palliative patients.
“We are providing our health workforce with the training it needs to deliver palliative care to Tasmanians,” Barnett said.
“These scholarships will also ensure greater distribution of palliative care capability across the State and the health system, particularly in rural and remote areas.”
The demand for palliative care is increasing across Tasmania, with figures suggesting an additional 35% increase in the workforce over the next decade.
Scholarship applications are open until December 22 and can be submitted via email.
