After over 10 years of hard work, a mainland Tasmanian devil breeding program has welcomed the birth of its 500th joey.

Aussie Ark’s Barrington Wildlife Sanctuary in New South Wales found the Milestone devil during a recent regular pouch inspection.

The parks managing director Liz Gabriel said “each individual baby is so precious, so to reach this amazing milestone is fantastic for Tasmanian devils.”

“At the start of our devil breeding season our Joey count was up to 499, so we knew the next Joey we found would be our Milestone devil,” Gabriel said.

“It’s such a milestone and something so special for all of us who have been here since the early 2000s.”

The male joey has been named Milo the Milestone Devil and is already about four months old.
