A speed limit change will take effect on a short section of the Huon Highway through the southern edge of Franklin from next week.

According to the Commissioner for Transport, the existing 60km/h speed limit along the stretch of road will be extended by 300 metres.

The extension will cover a section of road that includes a sweeping curve, identified by the Commissioner as causing poor visibility for several driveways located just outside of the current 60km/h zone.

“The extended 60km/h zone will make the speed limit consistent throughout this section of road, improving safety for road users and pedestrians, and allowing drivers extra time to react to vehicles turning in or out of the driveways,” the Commissioner said.

“The speed limit was reviewed in response to concerns raised by the local community.”

The changes will be implemented once the current speed limit signs have been relocated.
